Cop of the Pops!
03/10/2006Could you win the special factor? Could you be the next Shayne Ward, Pink or Girls Aloud?
WEST Midlands Police are on the lookout for pop wannabes to audition for ‘The Special Factor’, supported by West Midlands Police Recruitment and The Pallasades Shopping Centre. The venture is a take on hit TV series ‘The X Factor’ as they search for a pop wannabe ‘guilty’ of being able to sing.
Special Constables turned judges will give up their own time to determine the goodies from the baddies as they track down future stars.
The latest round of auditions will take place at The Pallasades Shopping Centre in Birmingham city centre on Saturday 7 October 2006, from 10am.
All budding singers will get the chance to entertain shoppers at the Pallasades, which is located above New Street Station and provides the first point of entry to the city centre for most shoppers.
Jo Blythin, Marketing Manager for The Pallasades said: “This is not just a great opportunity to enjoy a good sing-along but this competition is a valuable asset to the community. The Specials do a brilliant job within Birmingham and The Pallasades is only too pleased to support their work. “
The pop wannabes who give the most arresting performances will then battle it out in a live showdown in January 2007, with members from the showbiz industry deciding on the winner who most deserves the chance to cut tracks in a local recording studio.
All money raised from ticket sales will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support which improves the lives of people affected by cancer locally. They provide practical, medical, emotional and financial support and push for better cancer care.
Organiser Darren Yates said: “We’re looking for contestants with a hint of personality, lots of charisma and a good voice – not tone-deaf wannabes who murder songs and rob others of a chance to perform.
“This is an exciting opportunity for us to really promote police recruitment, help someone on the road to stardom and raise money to help those people affected by cancer.”
A few years ago, West Midlands Police Recruitment sponsored ‘The Copstars’ - a bunch of crooning cops who joined forces with Hayley Evetts and Joe Pasquale to record a version of ‘Bobby’s Girl’ for charity.
