Who We Are...
The Pallasades Shopping Centre provides the first point of entry to the City Centre and is situated above New Street Station and commonly regarded as "the gateway to the city". It opened in 1971 and was formerly known as Birmingham Shopping Centre. It also enjoys a 1200 space multi-story car park.
It occupies 290,000 square feet (26,942 m²) above the station and is currently owned by Birmingham City Council, who purchased it on 30 March 2009 from the Agora Max Shopping Centre Fund, a property fund of Warner Estate. It was sold to Agora Max by the previous owners, The Mall, in October 2005.
The Pallasades is the place in the city if you are on the look-out for great buys and value for money. With an eclectic mix of accessories, gifts, fashion, electrical, sports and beauty stores, you can dress yourself from top to toe, check out the latest computer games and pick up the latest mobile phones.
You'll also find a number of great spots for a tasty snack or hearty lunch, ranging from Pretzels, juices, cookies and crepes to coffee, sandwiches, cakes and paninis.
The centre has an average weekly footfall of over 420,000 per week and over 90 retail units; major names include Argos, Claire's, HMV, Gamestation, Peacocks, Poundland, Starbucks, Tesco Express, The Carphone Warehouse, 99p store and many more. There are a wide range of smaller, specialist shops, exclusive boutiques and a number of well-established eating places.
The main entrance to the Shopping Centre is from New Street, further access is available from Station Street and Stephenson Street. A disabled access ramp spirals down from the Pallasades to the corner of Stephenson Street and Navigation Street. In addition, the centre has a connection to the Bullring which is an aerial link connecting the two buildings.
The shopping centre will transform as the rest of the railway station is also rebuilt during the £500 million Gateway Plus project.
The Pallasades works closely with the local community and supports a number of initiatives running throughout the year including Local Heroes, Baby of the Year, Schools Awards and events covering key calendar dates.
